The PIONEER team recently joined colleagues from across University Hospitals Birmingham to celebrate Clinical Trials Day 2025 at a vibrant Research Showcase held in the atrium of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
The event brought together a wide range of research teams, each hosting creative and interactive stalls designed to engage patients, visitors and members of the public. Throughout the day, the atrium was buzzing with activity as people stopped to learn more about the innovative research taking place across the Trust and the positive impact it is having on patient care.
As part of the showcase, the PIONEER team spoke with members of the public about the vital role health data plays in improving healthcare. Using a range of informative materials, including flyers translated into five of the most widely spoken languages in Birmingham, the team highlighted how securely accessed and responsibly used health data can support researchers in developing new treatments, improving services and advancing patient outcomes.
The event provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the importance of public involvement in research and to demonstrate how patients’ healthcare experiences can help shape future innovations in acute care.
The day concluded with an awards ceremony recognising the creativity and effort that teams had put into their displays. While PIONEER narrowly missed out on the top prize, facing stiff competition from a team whose exhibit featured a robot, the team was delighted to receive a Certificate of Participation in recognition of its engaging and informative exhibition on the use of health data in healthcare research.
Reflecting on the event, the team welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with patients and the public, answer questions and raise awareness of how health data is helping to drive research and innovation across the NHS.
Clinical Trials Day is an annual celebration of the contribution that research makes to improving healthcare. Events such as the Research Showcase help bring researchers and the public together, highlighting the collaborative efforts that are shaping the future of patient care.
The PIONEER team would like to thank everyone who visited the stall and took the time to learn more about how health data is supporting life-changing research and innovation.
