PIONEER Director Appointed Deputy Director of Major National Training Programme

PIONEER is delighted to congratulate our Director, Professor Elizabeth Sapey, on her appointment as Deputy Director of a prestigious new Wellcome-funded PhD training programme that will help develop the next generation of Clinician Data Scientists.

The collaborative programme brings together the Universities of Liverpool, Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds and Strathclyde to address a growing skills gap by combining expertise in healthcare, medicines and advanced data science. The initiative aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to improve the safe use of medicines and enhance patient safety through data-driven research.

As Deputy Director, Professor Sapey will play a key role in shaping the programme and supporting future clinical leaders. The University of Birmingham will be central to the initiative, drawing on its world-class training environment, expert supervision network and access to national healthcare data through PIONEER.

This recognition reflects Professor Sapey’s leadership in advancing data-enabled healthcare research. Everyone at PIONEER looks forward to supporting this exciting programme and the opportunities it will create for researchers, clinicians and patients alike.
