At PIONEER, we are passionate about helping people understand how health data can be used safely and responsibly to improve healthcare. That is why we were delighted to take part in the Clinical Trials Day 2025 Research Showcase at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
The event brought together research teams from across University Hospitals Birmingham, transforming the hospital atrium into a lively hub of discovery, conversation and innovation. Throughout the afternoon, patients, visitors and members of the public explored a variety of interactive displays and learned more about the exciting research projects taking place across the Trust.
For the PIONEER team, the day was all about people. We had the opportunity to speak directly with patients and members of the public about how health data is supporting research that can lead to better treatments, improved services and enhanced patient care. These conversations are an important part of what we do, helping us share how data-driven research benefits communities while listening to the questions and views of the people whose data makes that research possible.
To make our information accessible to as many people as possible, we developed a series of informative flyers translated into five of the most widely spoken languages in Birmingham. This helped us engage with a diverse audience and ensured that more people could learn about the role PIONEER plays in enabling healthcare research.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing the enthusiasm people brought to the event. Visitors were keen to learn more about research, ask questions and discover how innovations are being developed within the NHS. It was encouraging to see such strong interest in the future of healthcare and the role research plays in improving outcomes for patients.
Of course, no showcase would be complete without a little friendly competition. The day concluded with an awards ceremony recognising the teams that had created the most engaging displays. While PIONEER did not take home the top prize this year, we were up against some impressive competition, including one team whose display featured a robot! We were nevertheless proud to receive a Certificate of Participation in recognition of our exhibition highlighting the importance of health data in healthcare research.
More than anything, the event reminded us why public engagement matters. Every conversation helped raise awareness of how health data is being used to support life-changing research and provided an opportunity to build trust and understanding around data-driven innovation.
We would like to thank everyone who stopped by our stall, shared their thoughts and took the time to learn more about PIONEER. Events like these demonstrate the power of bringing researchers and the public together, and we look forward to continuing those conversations as we work to improve healthcare through research.
