Liz is a Professor of Acute and Respiratory Medicine at the University of Birmingham and an Acute and Respiratory Medicine Consultant at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Liz founded PIONEER in 2019 to reduce health inequalities, improve health outcomes and enhance patient experience during unplanned health care episodes, through the ethical and transparent use of health data for public good. Ensuring all communities benefit from health data research remains one of Liz’s passions, so that innovation works for everyone.

Suzy is Head of Health Data Research Programmes at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. She has over 25 years’ experience of working in both public and private sector healthcare roles, providing a broad understanding of the healthcare environment.

Her specialist areas include statistical analysis of health data including service evaluation, clinical audit, data modelling and simulations, the design and use of complex databases, but also business, marketing and communication.

As Technical Director Suzy ensures the products and services, we offered are both industry standard and cutting edge.

As Deputy Director of PIONEER, Suzy works closely with Liz to enable health data insights to be translated quickly into patient benefits.

As Business Manager Andrew is responsible for ensuring the operations of the Hub run smoothly. Building on his previous commercial relationship experience he maintains dialogue with all external parties and customers.

He ensures data enquiries are processed in a timely manner and acts as a single point of contact for all our customers.

Richards builds strategic industry and academic partnerships to deliver research which improves lives, with recent projects including the Quantum Technology Hub in Sensing and Measurement, The National Centre for Nuclear Robotics and the UK Rail Research Innovation Network. In PIONEER, Richard and his team connect industry, academic, and government research teams with PIONEER, to enable patients to benefit from the latest health innovation.

Eliot’s role connects research development, industry and policy teams across the University of Birmingham and its partners to drive major research innovation and investment programmes aligned to Life Sciences. He leads PIONEER activity around sustainability, leveraging the value of collaborative working across sectors for public good.
